Challenge

Our nonprofit client faced significant challenges in gaining visibility within its space. Operating with minimal to no budget for advertising, it struggles to effectively capture the attention needed to promote its mission and initiatives. Fortunately, Google provides a $10,000 monthly Google Ads grant for nonprofits. However, this grant is limited to non-commercial, informational queries, making it difficult to leverage for high-competition keywords. The key challenge lies in utilizing this grant to maximize visibility and authority without the resources typically required for a robust digital marketing campaign.

Strategy

To overcome these challenges, we focused on high search volume queries with lower competition. By leveraging the Google Ads grant, we targeted top positions for these queries, particularly those adjacent to the nonprofit’s mission.

The approach included:

  1. Targeting Informational Queries: Focusing on high-volume, low-difficulty keywords related to the nonprofit’s mission statement. These queries are often sought by journalists and researchers, providing opportunities for link-building and gaining authority.
  2. Building Authority: By consistently ranking at the top for these informational searches, our nonprofit client becomes a trusted resource. This authority can lead to mentions and backlinks from major publications like Bloomberg and other respected media outlets.
  3. Expanding SEO Efforts: With the established authority from the ad campaigns, the nonprofit was now able to target more specific, service-based keyword. This expanded SEO effort ensured that our nonprofit client not only gains visibility but also drives relevant traffic that aligns closely with its goals.
